COMEDY

An unemployed slacker's life is upended when a new government employment program cuts farm subsidies and sends the unemployed to work on those farms under deplorable conditions, forcing the slacker to finally stand up for the unemployed and himself.

Notes on the Screenplay:

The screenplay combines elements of romantic comedy, social satire, and underdog story to comment on themes of personal responsibility, workers' rights, absurd government programs, and the conflicting American ideals of hard work versus government assistance. Through Gordon's character arc, it suggests that true maturity comes not from simply following society's prescribed path, but from finding one's own way to contribute meaningfully to the world.
